Sherwood Park, AB - Elk Island Catholic Schools (EICS) is pleased to announce the hiring of Christina MacKinnon as our new Assistant Superintendent of Educational Excellence beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.

Christina is currently the Director of Innovation and Wellness at Greater St. Albert Catholic Separate School Division, a position she has held since 2021. She began her teaching career with that school district in 1993, making the transition to administration in 2013 to serve as vice principal and principal.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to welcome Christina to our team as Assistant Superintendent,” said EICS Superintendent Paul Corrigan. “Christina is a faith-filled educator with an amazing history of servant leadership as both a school-based and system leader. I know she will continue the tradition of exemplary service in our division.”

MacKinnon said she is equally excited: “I will most definitely bring forth my enthusiasm for faith and learning, always keeping student growth and achievement at the forefront,” she said. “Having served in education for more than 30 years, I look forward to learning about and with the amazing staff, students, and learning community of EICS.”

An active participant in her community parish, MacKinnon said she is eager to start a new learning and serving journey within EICS, and that she is excited to share her faith, joy, and zest for well-being and learning.

MacKinnon is filling the position that is being vacated by Thérèse deChamplain-Good, the current Assistant Superintendent of Educational Excellence, who has announced her intent to retire at the end of the current school year.

“I and everyone in our division are forever grateful to Thérèse for her vision and her dedication to our division over the last seven years,” Corrigan said. “I pray that her ‘career realignment’ is blessed, and all the best in her future initiatives.”

EICS, part of Alberta’s publicly funded education system, is committed to developing educational opportunities in the context of Gospel values. EICS is dedicated to providing quality, faith-based learning environments to students of any background and faith, where their skills are nurtured and celebrated by dedicated, caring staff.
