Where can I get my child's school supply list?
School supply lists are available at your child's school throughout the year. Supply lists are also available during the summer months at the Education Centre in Sherwood Park located on 160 Festival Way.

We are here from another country on a work visa. What steps do I have to take to put our children in school?

Students whose parents are here on a work visa would complete a student registration form indicating that the Citizenship of student is "Child of Individual Lawfully Admitted to Canada for Permanent or Temporary Residence"

Can non-Catholics attend your schools? Do they have to take religion?
Non-Catholics are allowed to register in our schools depending upon the enrollment of our schools.  You will be asked to complete a Non-Catholic Non Resident Interview form for approval by the Director of Student Services.  Religion is a compulsorary course in our schools.

Elk Island Catholic Schools does have an International Students program.  Please go to the International Students page for directions on the enrollment process.

Who can I speak with regarding my child who has special needs. What programs are in the schools to help my child?

Each of our schools has a Student Services Facilitator who can answer all of your questions regarding special needs services and programs.  Please contact your school and make arrangements to meet with your school Facilitator to speak specifically about your child's needs.

Who can I speak with regarding my child's teacher?

If  you have problems with your teachers programming, etc. we would encourage you to talk to your teacher directly and come up with an agreement or resolution regarding your child.

What age can my child start Kindergarten?

As per Board Policy IEBA, the Board believes that students will be able to learn best when they are fully prepared in the cognitive, emotional and social domains for the expectations of the education programs that the Division has to offer. 

 

The Board has established the following entrance ages for admission to the Divisions programs.

 

1.     For schools within the communities of Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, Vegreville and Camrose:

 

1.1.      Kindergarten (ECS) students shall be eligible for the program provided that their fifth birthday is on or before March 1 following the opening date of school;

 

1.2.      Grade one students shall be eligible for the program provided that their sixth birthday falls on or before March 1 following the opening date of school.

If I do not wish my son/daughter to go to their designated school, what steps to I have to take to put him/her in a different Catholic school in our community?
Families wishing to choose their own school must complete and submit a Boundary Exemption Form and submit it to the principal at the school of their choice. Approval requires that there are sufficient resources and facilities available to accommodate the student at their school of choice.

Where do I get transcripts for my daughter/son?

Official transcripts can be obtained from Alberta Education.  For more information you may go to the Alberta Education website http://education.alberta.ca/students/transcripts.aspx.  Or contact the transcript office at 780-427-5732 (To access toll-free in Alberta, first dial 310-0000).
